Homemade Grip Water: The Gas Goo’s
As a first time mom, you can be very overprotective of your little one; and when they cry, you scramble to figure out what’s wrong with “The Baby”. So when my little one started to have gas—aka The Gas Goo’s— I researched everything! First I thought he had colic (thank The Most High he didn’t), then I thought he had acid reflux..but in the end, it turned out to be good ole gas.
Of course I took to twitter to ask #TheInternet moms what they did to help “The Baby” with gas. I got so many remedies and tweets. From bicycle leg kicks, to lying baby on their stomach, to pushing the gas out of their belly. I ended up choosing the Gripe Water method.
I opened my amazon app and searched for the most “natural” non GMO gripe water I could find. I then came across Wellements Organic Gripe Water and used that for about a month and a half. Then, true to my husband and I’s entrepreneurial nature, we set to purchase the main ingredients on the box: ginger, fennel, and chamomile. I added a bit of fenugreek in it for flavor.
It came out a bit on the bitter side, but Needless to say, bc these babies are super new to the world, you can get them used to whatever type of food pallet you want. My son likes it and loves when I give it to him AND, in my opinion, it works better than the store bought Gripe!
So….I WON! lol
Recipe
When Making the grip water you want to use minimal water, so that you can extract the meds from the herbs.
-Use 1 1/2 cup water
-3/4 cups chamomile
-1/4 Fennel seeds
-1/4 ginger
You can add natural sweeteners if you think your child needs it, however, I am raising my child to eat naturally grown veggies and fruits, and do not want to introduce him to sugar until he’s a pre'-teen. By then I hope he does not desire it lol.
Boil the ingredients mentioned above for about 15 min, then let it simmer for another 15 min. Once you’ve done that , use a tea strainer to strain the seeds and herbs. Pour the mixings in a bottle or container and then serve minimal dosages to baby.
this is a natural remedy that works for my child and may not work for yours. Just as the store bought grip water works for some babies, and not others. Please experiment responsibly
