Manufacturing & Product Development.

A year after graduating with my BA in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, I started Eyes Like Pearls LLC. The first year focused on made to order collections that eventually led to networking with underground manufacturers in the Downtown Los Angeles area. From 2012-2020 Eyes Like Pearls LLC offered Brand Development, Product Development, and Manufacturing for new and existing brands seeking to produce small to medium quantities for their apparel products.

Partnering with manufacturers allowed me to focus on operations, developing my clients’ aesthetic, and success in their sample making and production journey. By 2017 I acquired a wide range of over 20 brands, from novice startups to Khloe Kardashians’ Good American Denim line: transforming concept sketches to CADs and finishing with production.

If projects were a bit complex, my team created the patterns and samples; otherwise, I typically tackled the task of creating the first pattern and sample prototype.

Below are a few examples of cost sheets, line sheets, flat sketches, samples and final product gathered from few of my clients over the years.

Fabric & Trim Sourcing

One of the most important parts of the process is fabric sourcing. I’ve been sourcing fabrics since 2007 during my early college days at FIDM.

Dive into behind-the-scenes videos and pics of my fabric sourcing journey from DTLA to Tokyo’s Big Sight Fashion Trade show in Shibuya.

Patterns and Samples

Examples of my pattern and sample sewing work for clients

Design

My design interest started at the age of 3. My grandfather built a sewing studio for my grandmother, so I spent a lot of time around production, growing up.

Like most creatives, we spend a lifetime fine tuning our aesthetic, likes and dislikes, and tweaking our taste levels through traveling and life experiences.

While my aesthetic is still developing…. below are examples of my work dating back to 2016-2021, designed/conceptualized, sketched, patterned, cut, sewn, naturally dyed, creative directed, and sold made to order.

ELP Spring 2016 LookBook

This collection focused on Denim and knits. I love creating video lookbooks. Heres spring 2016 shot in Los Angeles, featuring myself and my friend, Doma, in my handmade designs.

Spring 2017

This Collaboration was done with a fellow DC Native who owns a brand called EAT.

I created the pattern and sewn prototype featured in our promo video. I had my manufacturing partners produce a total of 175 sets, in 3 SKUs. Film pics shot by Malik.

Fall 2017

I was really into florals for fall. I found a super cute floral velvet and sketched, patterned, cut and sewed this 2 piece.

Natural Dyeing Experimentation

Before I sold Eyes Like Pearls LLC, I got into 100% natural fibers and dyes. The following body of work are dyed prints I created while experimenting with Cochineal Bugs, Indigo Dye, Turmeric seasonings, Beets, and a host of other natural mediums.

This eventually led to the birth of Land Of Goshen, a sustainable clothing line created by my then husband and I.

The two samples below were dyed with all mediums mentioned above, on 100% silk sourced from my fabric connections in South Korea.

Land Of Goshen

Land of Goshen was a clothing, textile, and print design brand that I owned with my then husband. Our main focus was sustainability, health, and lifestyle.

Over the years I’ve noticed how my skin reacts to certain fabrics, so I wanted to offer a healthier option for clothing.

I designed, patterned, cut, sewed, sampled, and dyed everything seen below.

Collection Sample Making

Before I sew in self fabric, I create a muslin sample of all designs to ensure fit.
